Incorporate Black in Your Space: A Guide to a Neutral and Black Bedroom

Neutral spaces are prevalent for a reason. The look of crisp white sheets and heavy white curtains with a hint of blush and beige, is a look of serenity and maturity, which I love.

Neutral bedrooms with minimal tones and muted burlap-like textures are no doubt highly desirable but at times, they may look a bit bland and then the witch in me wants to paint everything black.

However, it's certainly not something I recommend you do, no matter how strong the will. Instead, let me show you how to incorporate black into your space to spice it up just the right amount. These items will give you a classic Black and Neutral Bedroom look.

1. Black Bed Frame and Bed Pole

Make your bed frame black.

The best thing about making the bed frame black is that you can still keep your bed neutral which is certainly a surefire way to make your room look richer. You can see my thoughts on the bed here.

By turning the bedpost black, you set the stage for so many more subtle ways to incorporate black without ever overpowering the serene elegance of a room.

Take for example the black handles on the drawers on either side of the bed (pictured above). You're not drawn to them like black bedposts, but they add so much depth and character to a room.

Also, you can simply use a black accented side table to complement the black bed frame.

And in the image below notice the thick black frame, lining the walls on either side of the bed, complementing the bed quietly yet firm.

Take a tips: If you're interested in a black bed frame, top it off with just another little black decor item (more on my favorite decor pieces later). Avoid using black carpets and don't pair a black bed with black walls. It will only make the room loud and stifling.

2. Black Window Panel

Lately, I've been obsessed with black and neutral combinations. I am SO EXCITED to even just talk about this gorgeous look.

Tip: This is more suitable for a living room than a bedroom.

Black when paired properly with neutral and muted tones makes for a great contrast.

SEE THIS BEAUTY!! Look at how the black window panes add so much space. The furniture is still smooth and light but not boring at all.

However, it is only the installation of these dark panels with the right dark d├ęcor that gives the room an upgrade.

For example, in the image above, look at that gorgeous black chandelier. And in almost every black and neutral room you'll find a beautiful center table/coffee table with dark wood countertops and sleek black legs. This is a combination made in heaven.

In the image above, look at the middle table. Notice how the black window panes and metallic black table legs complement each other. I love how they used the brown sofa to accent the wood and then finished off the look with a gray and white rug and pouf.

3. Black Accent Wall

This is perhaps one of the most popular ways to incorporate black in any room. It is bold, austere and unlike other methods, does not even require other selective decorations. Just add all the edges you might want to add.

When it comes to decorating and styling an accent wall, simplicity is key. The black wall itself is a bold piece so adding unnecessary decor will just suffocate the entire ensemble. Instead, choose minimal, complementary styles and colors.

The best items to decorate walls are mirrors, console tables or benches and planters (have bright greenery).

And the complementary colors that match are- olive green and brown.

ALTERNATE:

However, making the entire wall pitch black may not be to your liking and I can understand why. In this case, it is still possible to make a moody accent wall. Here's how:

Instead of black walls, paint the walls gray and then decorate with a black framed mirror and this beautiful black accented console table.

The black planters and black chairs only add to the beauty of the space.

4. DECORATION

All the methods listed above fail if you don't pair them with the right type of decor. You don't even need to do any of the above if you have enough (and correct) black decor.

Some classics:

1. BLACK FRAME:

They alone can add all the black you could possibly need in outer space.

2. DARK STORAGE:

This could be a cupboard or bookshelf or even a display room. They can do a great job of highlighting a neutral room.

3. LIGHTS: Black lights are part of the statement. If you choose a side table that has only black accents rather than completely black, you should opt for a black table lamp.

4. STUDY TABLE

Believe it or not, study desks are PERFECT for adding a moody tone to a small room. In a room that doesn't have enough space for a side table and coffee table, a study table made of dark wood and black accents is a great alternative.

Anyway that's it for today!! I hope these tips help you achieve the perfect neutral and black bedroom design.

Let me know if you ever apply this!

See you again, in the next article!
